Thought I'd ask here as well as in the classifieds - I'm looking to buy a ¼" open-reel tape deck, something like the Akai 40000D model. Anybody got one lying about not being used?

I have an Akai 4000D gathering dust. I have sent you an email.

Re: I'm looking for an open reel tape deck
Thanks Howard, but I bought one off ebay not long after I posted the request that started this thread. I bought an Akai 4000D new in 1969 I think it was - and I have the feeling I paid about £70 for it back then. Not sure when I sold it, but this replacement is exactly the same machine and I've just paid £30.
They must have tough innards to last 43 years so well, but apart from worn heads this old machine performs well, as the three-head switching shows with ease. I cleaned the heads, demagnetised the tape path and am back in business.

I got a PM from FredD about this, but being a new member, I cannot reply to PM's. Could you re-send your message with alternative contact details? Thanks
Howard

It is me (Fred D), that Howard is trying to get in touch with, after I sent him a pm that apparently he couldn't reply to.
We are now in touch with email !
Kind regards,
Fred D
