having used adobe 6.5 with a DV500 breakout box it was never an issue to output the preview of a project as a wysiwyg to a TV.
upgrading to HD software (premiere 2 or better) with a dual head grfx card x1 DVI output to primary monitor x1 VGA to secondary for tools and extended time line....
what is the best route to preview a project on a TV ?
X3 output or TV output graphics card ?
Is there any guarantee that the adobe software will handshake with the graphics card???

Not sure how bug free PP2 software is with various graphics cards.
Can't answer - you might need to post on an Adobe forum or DVdoctor. (I only do short films needing one monitor...
)

I use PremPro 2 for SD editing with a Radeon graphics card. This has DVI and VGA outputs plus TVIO with S and composite video out. Premiere does not specifically pick up this TV output to monitor the video.
I have a Panasonic DV tape deck permanently connected to the firewire in/out and the deck converts the signal to output on a connected TV monitor. This has a slight disadvantage of a short (fraction of a second) delay between what's seen on the Premiere window and that seen on the TV monitor, but does show exactly what willl be finally recorded to tape.
Can't comment on HD.

Welcome to the wonderful world of HDV! The computer demands of processing HDV are so great that it is not possible using the computer's own resources to output a signal to an external TV monitor. There are add on cards available from Black Magic and Matrox that will send the signal out but they are expensive, you also need an HD TV as your monitor, SD won't work. The inexpensive answer is to buy as big a computer monitor as you can afford so that you can see as big an editing image as possible. I frequently print out sequences to tape and then play them to my HD TV through component connections from my deck or via HDMI from my Canon HV20. Hope this helps
