Vimeo and us

Post by ned c »

Following up on the item about green film making I spent time reading the Vimeo rules/regulations. By posting with them we grant them subsidiary rights in perpetuity, without recompense, to our works. They can also modify and create subdidiary versions of our work and do not need any further permission to do so. I wonder why they have this clause in their agreement? It really serves no purpose in terms of posting works for general viewing but does suggest that Vimeo have an interest in using works posted that could generate income for them with neither recompense or recognition for the film maker. I note this is a New York based organisation and in the best traditions of America has a legal department. Although the film maker retains the copyright, uncompensated, uncontrollable subsidiary rights are granted to Vimeo and their successors, asssigns etc which means in effect anyone they name.

I am old cynic and I see a potential here for a rip off!

Ned, I've had a look at both of the web-sites on Daves posting and don't like the look of either of them.
