Meeting The Charity Test

Post by edin »

There have several new acts of parliament which came into force in April 2006. All organisations that were previously registered and recognised by HM Revenue and Customs as a charity were automatically entered on the charity register. However this did not imply that that the organisation would be recognised as a charity for ever and each would be reviewed over time.
Some orgainisations (as far as I know not any video clubs) have had to amend their constitutions to ensure that they complied with the new conditions.

Has any video club looked into this subject or been reviewed under the new acts to justify their charitable status.

I know in many cases video clubs registered with HM Customs as a charity to obtain the benifits it offered for membership subscriptions.

How is your club described in its constitution?
Does it exist for one or more charitable purpose and does it provide for the public benefit!!

Am i raising an issue where there is no real concern for the ongoing charitable status of local clubs!

I don`t know (or cannot remember) the state of my club, but we have had two free grants from the national lottery for money to upgrade our gear.
