Amateur / non-commercial films on the web
Amateur / non-commercial films on the web
We have occasionally mentioned websites with non-commenrcial movies that are
streamed or can be downloaded. I have just visted an Australian one: www.wollongongcc.org.au
This is a small club with a stills group and a video group. Explore the
video section - there's an interesting newsletter and there is also a small
gallery with sequences of stills and videos. I specially like last year's
winner which is a standard report on a trip along a preserved railway line,
but enlivened by presenting it as a battle between "Murphy" and the "Volunteers"
- as each breakdown, line blockage etc is attributed to Murphy but the railway
enthusiasts fight back. It's a great idea and makes this little movie a
gem.
In many ways I take as much delight in a good idea like this, as I do in
movies which are technically better and more detailed in structure. John
Devenish is obviously a man of ideas with a sense of humour.

Thanks Dave,
I visited the website, viewed and enjoyed the video, left a message and received
a response. Liked their video group newsletter as well.
Come on Ian, hoped you will have an entry for AMPS this year!

This year the Eulenspiegeleien Festival had 83 entries from all over the
world.
They chose 53 for screening and among them was "The Royal Invitation" by
Ian Phillip Gardner from England.
So far as I can see the only other English films screened were:
"The Visitor" by South Downs Club
"Kindermunde(Child's Mouth)" by John Guile
Of the four international films given awards, two were from French film students:
"Bains Douches" and "La Methode Anglaise", one from a Czech guy, Vit Karas
called "The Most Solid Handcuffs" aka "The Strongest Bonds" - which is available
on a collection of UNICA hits available from the IAC video library V306(VHS)
V307(S-VHS) V308(MiniDV) V309(DVD) - no hire fee just post and packing. The
fourth was "Moonstruck" by Bernhard Hausberger and Peter Moser from Austria.
I have seen 3 of the 4 and they take some beating!
I'm not sure about it, but you might get some sort of strangely worded certificate
- a German joke style of writing - eventually, Ian. Don't hold your breathe!
Cheers
