Holy Moses, have we got to put up with two of you now, Ned?
Albert...Just Neditating.
Sorry about that Albert. Re DVCAM v DV, the tape speed is actually the same,
the difference is the width of the recording track, 10 microns for DV and
15 microns for DVCAM (If I remember correctly.)plus locked sound with DVCAM.
My old and long loved Miller head at last died with black sludge oozing from
the seals and with a repair quote that would pay for a new low cost set up
I bought a new tripod/head & went with a Libec H35 and after a couple months
am well pleased. So, if you are in the market for new set of sticks and head
have a look at the Libec range. They are not Vintens or Millers but neither
is the price and they are very workmanlike.
On the IAC NLE there is a debate about the use of cheap IEEE1394 cards, I
bought a Pyro from B&H for about USD75 (succesfully self installed by fumble
fingers the PC killer)and it even came with a sort of defanged ULead software
plus the software Albert sent, both of which produce very adequate results.
In fact about 75% of what I do on FCP3 could be done with this card and software
(not the sound - very limited) and neither have crashed so there really is
no excuse for not making videos now. I recently bought the cheapest miniDV
camera I could find (USD400 Panasonic DV51D Firewire in and out) for the
family stuff and stagger back in amazement at the quality. I did an edit
on the PC using the camera as both source and record deck and it worked perfectly.
At last, video production for the people - wonder if they will have anything
to say?
You know who, Albert.
