CINE SPLICING TAPES

Hi Fellow Supa Film Makers......

Has anyone got a hundred or so, (or less), Super 8mm. cine film splicing tapes that are unwanted, lying folorn is some dark box or cupboard. the Quick Splice Type that leaves the main magnetic stripe clear but probably covers the balance stripe.

These must be not "melted" together and completely useable.

I am aware that they can be obtained "on line" but the charge for a small quantity is
a bit silly in my view, especially including the postage charge......

I would be quite happy to buy 'em for a reasonable figure if useable and refund ordinary postage.

When I was operating small 16mm cinemas, many years ago, I had occassion to use super 8 film projectors
now and then to show local news items. In emergencies I resorted to using ordinary sellotape, and with careful cutting they lasted quite a few projections. As a hobbyist making my own super 8 films, I tried every commercial cement using splicer ever put on the market. The best one was a german make which grinded the edge of both film lengths to be joined thus making a very smooth passage through the gate.
I have found that the sticky splice tapes did not keep very well for a long period before use. So It would possibly be wiser to buy new ones. I have had the most expensive well wrapped German splice tape
lose stickiness after being stored for a couple of years.

Many thanks for your reply to my enquiry re Super8mm splice tapes.

I must've been fortunate 'cos I had some, now used up, which I bought
around 1976 or so still in the unopened packets, (HP Quick Splice), as it happened these were in perfect condition. They were kept in a cool equipment drawer in total darkness for all the years in between! I also had some film cement older than the tapes but when I managed to unscrew the bottle cap all I found was some sort of chemical breakdown into
a powder, (a salt)!
