i guess this is also the newb zone?

my name is Ric and i have been knocking about with 'real' film for about a decade. Started out and am still going with super8 but have recently started to experiment with 16mm.

am into transferring my own experimental films to dv so i can share them basically, so have done a lot of work on DIY transfer. That's how i came upon IAC

i can help with aerial transfer issues but i need a lot of advice on other aspects - you guys are way ahead of me technically.

anyway - thank gosh there is still film to be had - was born too late, should have been in my heyday late 60s early 70s, the golden era of ciné before vhs took the rug out from underneath (where is vhs now?)

Hi Ric and welcome aboard. So you're shooting Super-8, having it processed and then digitising it for editing and distribution, is that it? That article you highlight is pretty thorough, and if you can get hold of back issues of FVM you'll find I've written lots on film transfer techniques in the October 09 and the April and June 10 issues. It's also interesting to see how good ciné film can look on Blu-ray - there's a lot of info stored in each tiny Kodachrome frame.

I'd like to just mention something here if I may, for anyone else who may be 'looking in' and thinking of joining our happy group...

We get between 20 and 30 wannabe spammers and phishers a day - and it has been that way for some time now. At one time we checked each one out individually for authenticity, but that was taking up a considerable amount of time each day - even with two of us tackling it. Now, we have a 'feel' for the user names and the isp provider names - and only check those that are even vaguely 'possibly genuine'.

I mention this because, if, inadvertently, anyone is not accepted, the reason is they are using a potentially suspicious name and/or have an isp on the 'unwanted' list. Sadly, two of the suspicious email addresses are hotmail and gmail ...

If that does happen to you, contact asstweb@theiac.org.uk with your details, and it will be rectified.

The reason this has to be done is because some seriously nasty phishy and porny posts were hitting the site - and it is easier to keep the ungodly culprits out than to jump on such posts before anyone reads them and potentially catches a virus (which meant monitoring the site continuously 24 hours a day!).

I hope those wishing to join understand, and are patient... Thanks!

Sorry to be slow in greeting you, but I am kinda up-to-my-ears in a project to complete before Christmas (if possible!) I didn't move your postings around because most forum users now click on the "unread" link to get started so they find anything new.
