Pinnacle 12 question

Post by Peter Stedman »

I don’t (and never have) used Pinnacle 12 but have offered to help a lady of mature years who wants to start a small amount of editing using Pinnacle 12. Some club members that do use Pin 12, capture from mini-dv whilst this lady has a Sony Handycam Model No. DCR-SX33E. which records mpeg files onto a card. Whilst I am experienced with capturing dv (and that seems so straightforward in Pin.12) the business of capturing the meg files into the programme is causing me some head scratching. At the moment I have got all the files from the card onto an external HD. Also by an odd route I have got them into the Pinnacle album and thence onto the timeline to demonstrate the first steps in editing. But . . .

At first I tried File>Import from Device but that didn’t even recognise the drive. Therefore the options of, for instance, Rename Files and selective importing were not available. Looking around I found a button with the option of Select video files from a different folder. This found the drive and the video files but I can’t find a way of just selecting the files required for import, it appears to be ‘all or nothing’. Certainly no Rename Files facility. Has anyone any hints and tips on this aspect please before I try teaching the lady what to do? (Talk about the B**** leady the B****)

Peter

Sony solid state camcorders come with a CD/DVD which has the camcorder drivers and Sony's Picture Motion Browser (their capture utility)

If you do not have the disc you will need to download the appropriate camcorder drivers and capture software

I'm still asking questions on Pinnacle 12 + and the above camcorder. The lady can download the files from the camcorder on to her HDD but it seems a very convoluted process to get them into Pinnacle 12+ for editing.

Does anyone using Pinnacle 12+ and a card based camcorder know the way (if any) that Pinnacle+ can capture into editing suite via USB2 direct from the camcorder ? Perhaps it's just not possible and that the round-the-houses is the only way it can be done.

Surely some member of the forum use Pinnacle and card based camcorders?
