Putting club productions on the net

At my video club we have one or two members who disagree with having club productions put on the net such as youtube etc.

When I make a piece of film I like as many people to see it as possible.

Is there anyone else who belongs to a club where memebers have mixed feelings about putting productions on the internet.

Good to have you on board.

I do not understand those who make movies but do not want them to be seen as widely as possible.

There might be a case for keeping a film off the internet until it has been in the major festivals, just in case familiarity breeds contempt (or at least spoils the surprises.)

We know that YouTube / Vimeo and so on are not the best ways to watch movies, but they do allow a LOT of people to see what you have made. In the case of a club they could serve as useful promotion and might attract new members.

Many people have a strong sense of "possession" and like to keep control over everything they have made or bought. Perhaps they fear people will steal their ideas ... or even steal scenes from their films to make into their own ones?

What are your members reservations? There is an element of fear of breaking the law, if there is copyrighted music in the movie, where our licences don't actually cover the internet.

All Youtube would do in that case, would be make it silent.

When i make a film... i want as many people to see it as possible. I don't see why any film maker would not want the same?! I mean why make a film when you only want to show it to a very limited audience? Unless of course its a very personal film for a specific group.

My film 'Overtime' has reached an audience of over 45,000 people worldwide... that gives me a warm glow inside.

I wont mention Fingercuff... as some of his films have got somewhere in the region of 120,000 views! LOL...

The internet is a wonderful tool when used in the right way.

Putting movies on the internet doesn't guarantee that people will watch them, but it is a way of sharing creativity. We all don't want to that.
