Re: Manifesto for Change

The search facility on this forum is pretty comprehensive Jameela, and it's quite enlightening to note that that I've put up 800+ posts whereas John Howden (chairman) and Simon Sumner (vice chairman and youth liaison officer) don't appear to have posted at all. This doesn't necessarily mean they're ...

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

I can comment on Geoff's excellent 5* film Treble Clef. We three judges loved it, and I'd like to tell you why. Judges’ Comments Title: Treble Clef Number: 17134 Award: Five Star What an excellent film Treble Clef is! It’s excellent in a huge number of cinematic disciplines, not the least of which i...

Re: COVID-19

If only your post had been a letter to the editor of FVM, Jill, the FVM that will hopefully drop through our letter boxes next week. If few people read FVM these days, even fewer read these forums.
But nevertheless you bring tidings of great joy, and that's a Good Thing.

Re: COVID-19

Last night I did another Tom-show for Finchley's FFM, this time using Zoom. I spent a couple of hours in preparation, opened the laptop, donned the headset and was ready to go. One or two technical niggles, but no surprise really. This contrasts with my talk to the same club 14 months ago, when on t...

Re: COVID-19

Last night (Friday 17 April) FFM (the Finchley Gang) held a Zoom evening entitled 'So you'd like to be a Judge?' it went down pretty well I thought. So, judging is a clash between head and heart, as there was certainly no outright winner. In fact I'm pretty sure every film was nominated for 'best fi...

Re: Picasa replacement for windows 10

I agree, and I've long been a user and lover of Picasa and I use it all the time. I bet a Google search will still find a website that has it for download (though I haven't looked and of course it won't be updated by Google any more). Other than that there are quite a few such free editing programs ...

FVM February 2020

Is there a shortage of pictures in the world? Am I alone in thinking that the cover of this current issue of FVM (February 2020) is not only unnecessary (it's repeated on page 17 for goodness sake) but is also not high enough quality to withstand the editor's crop. It's just not sharp, and with just...

Re: FILM & VIDEO MAKER MAGAZINE

I'm with Tim, I'd vote for exactly the opposite..ie. I'd have even bigger photos. Go blindfolded up to the magazine section in your local supermarket and pick up any magazine you like. Remove blindfold. Flip pages. Huge photos. Words that seep into them. Colours and fonts that show commercial imagin...

Re: Canon HDV tape and Sony Decks

This was a not-uncommon problem back in the day, Ned, and I remember it well. There was a lot of talk about it on dvdoc, and it appears to be a Canon interpretation of the red-book rules, where they stepped out of line. I'm pretty sure it's not a head alignment problem as argued here: https://www.dv...

Re: Jameela Boardman's Article FVM October 2019

F A S C I N A T I N G And all this burst up through the tarmac just as I was wondering whether the cost of running these online forums was worth it, seeing as they generated so little traffic .. and even less comment. But look what you've done Jameela. Sit back and feel proud. Your short one page FV...

Your film looked good Roy, and I didn't notice any instability in the image - or had you deleted those sections or converted them to stills?

Re: 8mm film scanners

A friend of mine (not an IAC member) bought a Wolverine 8mm film transfer machine on eBay, for close on £300 using his credit card, just this month. He's had nothing but trouble with the machine, and the resulting MP4 footage is very unstable, unusable, in fact. The seller has refunded all his money...

Re: BIAFF 2019 at Birmingham

Thanks Dave. The link takes me to Girl A background videos, but strangely not to the film itself. And if nothing else it shows how feeble Vimeo's search facility is - it could find nothing when asked about Girl A.
