VR Filmmaking

Post by fraught »

I've shot a film called 'You Can Cancel at Anytime' in 3D 180 VR. I've managed to get it selected for 4 Festivals so far, where they have VR equipment to allow people to access the film. It seems to have gone down well. But finding festivals that will do this is near on impossible. Has anyone else ventured into this world of filmmaking? What equipment do you use?

I'm heading to the Horror-On-Sea Film Festival in January, where I will be setting up my kit for people to experience the film for themselves. If anyone is interested, please do come along!

Not happened at Watterson Towers ... so far at least. I am always reluctant to go to very recent technology - and that reluctance is greater the older I get!

So far my experiences with VR have not been impressive.

But hurrah for enthusiasm like yours, Geoff. Our hobby is driven by enthusiasts who are willing to go several extra miles to see if they can improve their work.

Cheers Dave. I'm always curious with new tech. I love watching movies in 3D, so going VR was a natural step. But it does have its many challenges, and they're not all technological. Creating a story that works in VR is almost as big a challenge as shooting the film. :-)

That's why your films are always worth watching ... you give a lot of thought to the mechanics of telling the story with whatever technology you use.

I hesitate to demonstrate that I am a boring old man, but what is VR?

Bless you Dave :-)

Michael - VR stand for Virtual Reality. You need specialist equipment to get the full viewing experience, like the Meta Quest 3, etc. Here is a trailer to my short film that you can watch on YouTube - https://youtu.be/PFxiKoJKhlg?si=KUSvqJE99GhowZUL - If viewing on your phone, make sure to look around. :-)
