Having had a look around at lighting equipment as I do every now and again , I have to ask is what's currently advertised as cheap as it's going to get? Can we expect to pay less?

There are a lot of DIY ideas, but many of them are no cheaper than buying the proper kit; I can only assume that the (domestic) plastic piping and connectors used for DIY in light stands, etc. in America are cheaper over there, as here in the UK you'd be lucky to save anything building it yourself by similar methods.

If anyone does know a cheaper way, please advise!

Although aimed primarily at "Vloggers", it has some very instructive things to say about the principles of lighting with the emphasis on making the most of whatever gear you've got (if any).

BTW, I read in an article on cinematography that it was A Taste of Honey in which Walter Lassally shot a scene by candlelight.
