Unbelievable professional error

Once again I have just finished watching 'Oliver Twist' that great classic
directed by David Lean, with Alec Guinness among a host of brilliant actors.
Great script, direction etc as one would expect. Difficult to fault in any way.

YET, right at the very end, the credits are shown against a picture of a white
house with the wording also in white. Much of the cast names etc are lost
against this non contrasting background.
Even the very large lettered THE END is mainly lost too.

Why o why was this allowed to happen? Maybe David Lean never
looked at the end titles until the film was printed and it was too late
to correct this blundering error. Was the end title left to an underling to do?

I'm sure we amateur film makers' film titles are always contrasted against a suitable background so the puzzle remains. Each time I watch this masterpiece I await the
end with foreboding.
Many other pro films suffer in this way too.
