BIAFF 2023

Post by Michael Slowe »

Someone has alerted me that the Coronation is scheduled at the same time as BIAFF next year. That is unfortunate to say the least but perhaps our eminent Committee could persuade the broadcasters to cover both events at once!

On a serious note, I note that we can enter films to BIAFF via FilmFreeway, as we already do for other Festivals. Can someone kindly tell me whether we still have to submit a completed Entry Form or is the FilmFreeway submission all that is required?

Michael, you don’t have to complete a form if entering films to BIAFF via Film Freeway. I’ve already submitted eight new films this way and it’s great that entry is free of charge to IAC members until 20th December.
Regarding the BIAFF weekend it’s really unfortunate that the Saturday is Coronation Day. We await news on whether the dates will have to be changed.

Still no news of change, so we can only assume BIAFF goes ahead as planned. It will now be in the middle of a three-day weekend with the extra bank-holiday being added on the Monday.

It was very difficult to get a weekend in the theatre ... so probably not much scope for change.

Further news from the IAC AGM:

BIAFF 2023 will last from Monday 1st to Monday 8th May ... most of that time online.

It is likely that there will be live screenings in the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, Friday 5th to Monday 7th May - with a break during the time of the coronation of King Charles III.

Friday and Saturday shows will probably be in the Barber Studio of the Crescent Theatre.

Some details are still being revised.

It is likely that the A-V show will be online only mid-week.

The Awards Show of top films and prize presentations will be on Monday 8th May - which is now an additional bank holiday. That will be in the main theatre.
