HDD Cache

Fellow Film Makers and Computer Peeps
Trying to get the grey matter around setting up of hard drives on a machine...
so... applying the same criteria to a motorcycle (I used to tune street bikes to go pretty fast !) ...
anything that is not critical to the primary objective (speed) will be left orf... some internal doobries would also be tweaked
got stuck right at the beginning !!!
Fitting a stand alone SATA2 drive that that will only have an OS and editing software installed
nothing else .... absolutely nothing!
will the cache play a significant role in the speed of the drive when editing?
this is usually set at 8Mb or 16MB (32Mb on drives > 300GB)
All data files apertaining to the film being edited will be held on humogous SATA drives elsewhere
I have heard RAID is the way to go but my life is too short to even try and get my head around that system!!
If anyone can explain in oh so simple terms I will buy them a bottle of Broon !
TIA
