Great job Ned. I haven't found - or looked really - of how to put longer than 10 min movies on the web. MP4 files seem to be the way.
Do you know if the full movie has been downloaded, and how many? Or where to?
It makes you wonder if we can buy webspace for us IAC members to put our movies online...

Could be another plus for being a member...

The big legal problem with video on the net is copyright.
In the UK the organisation which represents the main music companies (MCPS/PRS Alliance) did a deal with YouTube which goes some way to clearing a great deal of music for use on the web. It is not complete freedom and does not cover all the rights concerned. Artists can always object - and they or their management will do so if they think use of the music might be derogatory or damaging to them.
We are told it also covers video on the Google-video website, since Google owns YouTube.
The agreement covers only video uploaded from Britain and watched in Britain.
The trade have told us that it is OK for the IAC website and for video club websites to embed movies on their websites, so long as the films are actually held on and played from Google/YouTube.
You can get details of embedding on the main website (
http://www.theiac.org.uk/resources/web- ... ocess.html)
As for a showcase for interesting online movies ... the webmaster tells me to keep an eye on the main website in the next week or so.
The big practical problem is that though YouTube has got considerably better quality now - and shows in 16x9 - it is still a small image to keep file sizes down. That problem seems likely to persist until most of us have much faster broadband connections than we do now.

Hi Billy, given the size of the complete download, 150 MB, I doubt that there have been many downloads, rather people conact CSRL for DVDs whcih are freely available. I will try and find out if they can count downloads,
