Sad times indeed.... have you thought about using the internet to escalate this ?..... petitions etc... I am sure you have ... but your greedy mayor (who is put in position by the people!!) needs to be shown the door!

good luck ...
I`ve mentioned to Willy about making a film to discredit the Mayor, with local interviews. It would not be worst then our local news reports! I don`t think Willy liked this idea!

Be good....

Excellent suggestionsThank you very much, Stephen and Ian, for your suggestions.
The day after tomorrow I will have have a chat with one of our Flemish ministers who is also the political president of the Mayor's region. She has invited me, but also Elsie, our former Mayor, who's a member of my club and Walter, one of my former pupils who is vice-president of the local aquarium club. His club must pay even more : 3,200 euros.

Club-friendly mentality
I also sent a registered letter to our Mayor to confirm that we can't pay so much and that we will leave our clubhouse by 30th September. In that letter I thanked all the former Mayors and aldermen for their club-friendly mentality.

Newspapers
In the mean time some articles appeared in the local newspapers about the affair.

And knowing that the Mayor himself is one of my own former pupils... When he was 14-15 years old he always looked very smart. He was well-behaved in an exaggerated way. He always learnt his lessons very well. He knew all his irregular verbs and other things that he had to learn by heart. But that was it. He was not very communicative in English.

Nobody is superior
Once I suffered from a disease called "zona". He sent a little card to me. On it was written "Beterschap !" = 1 word in Dutch (=Speedy recovery). Under it : "Wetenschappelijk medewerker van de socialistische fractie in de Senaat". = 9 words in Dutch (Scientific assistent of the socialist party in the House of Lords). Of coursethis has nothing to do with the loss of our clubhouse, but it illustrates his mentality.

He should be proud
Many people have already said that he should be proud to have such a filmclub in his community. Also our local photography cklub is desperate and furious. In a few weeks there will be a slide show in our festivity hall. The Mayor asked one of his friends, a professional photographer, to show some slides. He could have asked the photography club which is a group of people. More and more we live in a world of individualists or egotrippers. Clubs belong to the past.

His e-mail address
Stephen and other friends : if you would like to write a message to our Mayor ... his e-mail address is marc.delaet@willebroek.be

Ian, I also like your idea. At this moment I am working a bit in "overdrive". I must finish some important films, but I could also ask my clubmates to interview people about the Mayor's behaviour. Afterwards we can show the film at our Gala. Perhaps you remember that all my friends will join a different club for competitions, but we will still come together once a month and try to organize something special.
