IAC DISCUSSION FORUMS

Regular readers know that one of our correspondents, "Fraught", set up a YouTube
group for IAC members to post movies. So far not many have chosen to add
their work to this but I have just posted the promo film for BIAFF 2007.

Why don't more of you put your shorter movies onto this group? It costs nothing
and makes them available to the world - albeit in a form only suited to viewing
on computer.

It's a long trailer for MICRO TRIP which will be showing in Thurso in February.
I took the soundtrack off because the composer has done something very stupid
that our copyright lawyer will be interested in. Hmm- an interesting year
lies ahead!

but a search on "micro trip" (two separate words) also finds it.

Without the sound it seems strange and some material is intended for widescreen
... but there are umpteen intriguing images in there. The pictures look great.
I want to know more about who - in some cases what - these people are and
what is going on.

In other words it is a great trailer.

Some of the shots were taken from a first capture in anamorphically reformatted
4:3 picture but we later re-captured the film in standard 4:3 and did the
swaps from 4:3 to anamorphic film live in the cinema. This enabled us to
retain the best picture quality for the screening. There certainly is a diverse
content in the film and lots of production tales have been shared between
our members.
One of the stories, "American Dog", is now being finished as a stand-alone
short. There will be two versions of it, the directors original intended
and our 'Micro Trip' version. Both are pretty much the same but very different
in style by dint of different music and titles. Later this year we intend
to show some of the stories in their original short film versions so the
opertunity to view both American Dogs will be there. Meanwhile watch out
for more trailers and the next Micro Trip screening- on mainland UK SO NO
EXCUSES FOR NOT BEING THERE!

One tip: Windows Moviemaker which comes free with Windows XP and probably Windows Vista offers an easy way to cut your work down to a size and quality suitable for the web.

Good tip Dave.

You can also use Apple Quicktime Pro (only costs £20) and that allows you to edit, import and export video using a huge range of file types and compressions.

OK Dave you've convinced me! I've uploaded a selection (after all, otherwise they just sit on the shelf gathering dust), and will try to persuade other Westcliff members to do likewise.

Of course if we also vote for each others movies that will tend to make more casual visitors notice them - who knows it might get more interested in the IAC and clubs (not that I'm suggesting vote rigging!)!

I'd just been looking at the YouTube material before popping on here ... great stuff. I know Westcliff do a lot of mock adverts and so on which might go down very well ...

When can we hope for another longer work of fiction from you? Your documentaries about the Hope school for disadvantaged children were great but I miss the fun of 'The Shoot' etc. In fact we were talking about that film only the other day - it is very fondly remembered.

Thank you for the compliment...The Shoot is probably my own favourite of my movies, partly because it follows my original idea very closely, partly because it was put together in such a short time and partly because it really was very great fun to make.

As far as longer fiction pieces, well Lester Redding and myself have just put the finishing touches to a short drama called "Numbers" for the Triangle Competition set theme but we hope to send it around the 'festival circuit'
