Marmite Kid is back home

One of our regular readers and occasional contributors is Mal Whiteley, aka
The Marmite Kid.

Many of you will have seen the films he made about how he faced up to the
threat of cancer over recent years, going through operations and radio-therapy.
He cannot praise his wife, Rita, too highly for all her support, care and
sometimes "tough love".

He was back in hospital this week after being taken ill suddenly. Tonight
he is back home with Rita.

They are not out of the woods yet but are determined to fight and beat the
illness.

I'm not much for prayer - some of you may be - but I hope you will join with
me in sending them both our love and encouragement.

It`s nice to hear that Mal is out of Hospital. I don`t know the man, but

I hope he recovers.
Best Wishes go out to him and his family. It`s alot of work and care when
someone is ill or recovering from something.

Mal's second film on the subject of his illness, "Second Time Around" was
an extended tribute to his wife and carer, Rita. He especially knows how
true your comment is.

By the way Jan and I have just booked up our flights for the Guernsey Lily
Festival in October. We got a good deal with Aurigny to and from Bristol.
In the past we have gone to and from Southampton. That's what made me wonder
if you could visit the Guernsey by wearing an inner-tube and floating from
the Isle of Wight ... are the currents right?

The Lily is a smaller festival than the IAC one. It has just one room as
its cinema instead of several "mini-cinemas" running. But it is very friendly
and relaxing. It gets great movies including some we don't see elsewhere.

Anyone else planning to go there?

Me and my mate could go on his Yacht! I havn`t sailed for a couple of years
now, but we had great times when we did. Quite a few scary stories I could
tell you believe me. The current is so strong in the Solent that you could
think you are speeding twenty to the Dozen, healing over, hanging on, but
you find that the bouy you saw 30 minutes ago (six feet away from the boat)
is now 10 feet away. Or getting stuck in the middle of the Solent at low
tide........... I see a film coming on..... A Dramatisation of `The Sailor
from Hell - Part one`.
The tide could take you but if you got it wrong, then you could end up in
Norway!

If it has one small Cinema, then will it get more then you and I in it!
I think a ferry goes from Portsmouth.

Dave, as you know I usually make the trip but I am annoyed to find that I
already have a prior arrangement for that weekend. I hope to have a film
by then though, all depends on how the edit goes!

Of course, me too, I wish Robin Mal all the best. Also my friend Urbain Appeltans,
who is the maker of "Dimato", "Prinsje", "Cinemascope" (Biaff-gold 2006)
and "Hannah" (Biaff international medaillon 2006) is recovering from cancer.
He's still suffering (chemotherapy treatment until May...) but he will be
in Bedford and hopefully also in Guernsey. He's already put on some weight.
He lost 21 kilos (3 stones ?). Urbain is proud of his Dutch GPS-lady telling
him the way to the hotel in Bedford, but this time it's me who will drive
the car. Being in England I feel like a pigeon flying back home.

You are an early bird, Dave ! I have decided to go to Guernsey. Mary Rouillard

told me that there are also very cheap Aurigny-flights from Dinard in France,
but I still prefer the seacat to the seabird.
