Could anyone recommend a light weight tripod please
My camera is a panasonic AG DVX 100 AE
The tripod I have now is as big as me and I am hopefully going to the Isle
of Jura to film and need something suitable as the terain is quite hard going.

I have two Libec Tripods, the TH650 which is light, stable with a "fluid"
head that is OK but not brilliant. I also have Libec LS55, much heavier and
with a decent fluid head. You can get info at www.libec.co.uk but suggest
that you shop around as there may be better prices from other sources.

Fantastic island, Bea ! About ten years ago I stayed in Bowmore which is
on the isle of Islay, but I visited the Isle of Jura with my camera and tripod.
The ferry crossing is very short. It was a daytrip. I always use a Libec
30. It's an excellent one, but I fear it's still a bit too heavy (about 5-6
kilo). I didn't have to carry it because I travelled by car. I remember
I stayed on the main road. In fact there was only one road on the Isle of
Jura. I was bitten by midgets while I was filming ! I hoped to film some
deer, but I didn't see any. Therefore I filmed some plants with my macro
lenses. It was for my film "Highland Road". I won a Guernsey Lily Trophy
with it. I remember that the famous author George Orwell stayed on the
island for some time. He suffered from pneumonia then. Do not think of this
and have a nice journey, Bea !

Sorry, I was bitten by midges, ... not by midgets ! I took my dictionary
after I had already written my message to you, Bea. Midgets are dwarfs, aren't
they ? Perhaps there are also dwarfs on the island. I don't know. And midges
are like mosquitoes, I think. Anyway my arms were full of red spots, but
I persevered and I could take the right shots.

I can recommend he Sachtler DV4 tripod, I bought one on the recommendation
of a cameraman at Channel Television. Actually he recommended the DV2 model
which has a lighter head,
and would probably be sufficient ( as I had a Canon XM1 at the time). I went
for the DV4 as I had a Bolex 16mm camera and was planning to get a Canon
XL1 at some time.
I now have got an XL2 and find the tripod is ideal. It is rather a large
tripod and, together with the supplied removable plastic base spreader, weighs
10 pounds.
It is also expensive but has an excellent fluid head, with an adjustable
camera platform which aids in balancing the setup when using different cameras
or lenses, and has a quick release camera base plate.
Unfortunately it is too long I think, to be able to take as carry-on baggage
on an aircraft.
