The national channel for new film and television talent
Propeller TV

Propeller TV is a new national channel for film and television talent, to
launch on SKY on February 6th. The channel will showcase the best new talent,
to a potential audience of hundreds of millions of viewers across Europe
through the Eurobird satellite system. It was launched on September 9th at
IBC, the World Media Trade Show in Amsterdam.
The channel, classified by SKY as part of the entertainment genre on the
EPG (Electronic Programming Guide), will sit along side the likes of BBC3,
E4 and Bravo as the outlet to see first broadcast talent. Content produced
by screen agency supported independents, film and television training centres
of excellence, film festivals and new film making initiative will showcase
a vibrant mix of original unseen programming.

The Film First strand of the channel is looking for short films to be considered
for broadcast. They can be any length and genre. You don't have to be Spielberg
to be considered for the channel, you could be an independent filmmaker or
even a community-based group.

Do check the website and download their pdfs on standards and so on before
going further. But as we all want our movies to be seen, this offers one
more possibility.

Just to add to that. I have been watching this channel for the past month.
It`s on Sky EPG number 289.
I have found the films very good and well made. I have found however that
alot of them don`t end properly! There endings dont really have a conclusion
to some of the storys. I would never make some of those films like they do.
It leaves the viewer wondering `What was that all about!`
But still. a good channel for us to get ideas from.

I too have been watching propeller, and agree some are the films are realy
good, but I have noticed they seem to jerk a little as though they were dropping
frames, still they may improve.

I too have been watching propeller, and agree some are the films are realy

Someone did say that the films come on DVD!. Maybe ok for Home, but in my
books, not ok for broadcast. If you think about it. 1hour of DVD (high quality)
is about 4.7 gig. 1hour of DV film as rendered by premiere is about 13gig!
Now this will only cause jerkies if it wasn`t converted properly or by the
make of their dvd player. As you know, some dvd players don`t play certain
types of files or discs very well. You only need to see this at our club
meets. Almost 50% don`t play very well on our clubs dvd player.
Other then that. It`s a good idea for a channel.
