I guess everyone is busy working to a deadline right now.

For some it will be Christmas and the rush to get cards posted, decorations
done, presents bought, house tidied, food stocked up ...

For others it will be a rush to get work edited and ready for the BIAFF entry-date
of 4th January.

I am reminded by emails from two friends who have been battling cancer this
year that we should take a moment just to be thankful for what we have got
... whether it is friends and family with whom to celebrate Christmas, or
the powers of technology which let us create sophisticated movies on our
own equipment.

One of those friends said that last Christmas he had a thousand wishes to
make. This year he has just one.

Do pop along here over the holiday and spend a few minutes with friends -
even if we can't ply each other with Green Ginger Wine or Advokaat and pass
chocolates round as we chat.

This year we lost one of our members. He was a fantastic filmmaker. He loved

his wife and he loved filmmaking. When I had emotional problems I had a chat
with him. In fact he replaced my father who died about 10 years ago. He always
gave me the best advice. "Don't be worried.", he always said and I calmed
down.I miss him very much. Now we do our utmost for his wife Alice. Last
week she said : on Christmas day I will be alone for the first time in my
life. She had tears in her eyes. My wife Vera suggested staying with us that
day. On Christmas Eve my brother and sisters come together to have a nice
meal. On Christmas day we stay at home doing nothing (or working on films
because the deadline is 4th January 2006 ...) Alice was very happy with that
suggestion. We could see a smile on her face.

Greetings to all from the other Colne subscriber. Malcolm doesn't say but

he's looking very well, face back to normal etc which is great to see. I'm
privileged to have seen the recovery first hand and to know some of what
lies behind it. There were grumbles on the way which never made it to the
films though we did record them, but then he rightly (in my opinion) concentrates
on the positive. (I am not surprised that one of his hospitals has got slated
for uncleanliness - some staff would have got a rocket from me in my veterinary
practice, never mind a hospital)
Still I have a lot to be thankful for. We have our golden wedding coming
up 2006, will be seeing all our family for Christmas.
I haven't finished a single film of any sort this year and have been submitting
a second-best for competition. By the way the briefly shown computer drawings
it contains were mostly filmed off a computer screen with permission from
the centre whose garden is the subject. I only added to them at the end.
If that disqualifies the film it's OK by me.
It wasn't made for competition.
