OT2 : Time An' A Half - The Online Diary

ENTRY : 18th June 2010

We've spent some time with the composer recording their score, which was basically a Piano solo piece. The music is absolutely beautiful... but i'm finding it hard to get it to fit the film. I've got a colleague to add drums, and synths, and strings to the music... yet it still doesn't work. Which is really dissappointing... especially as the music is so striking.

The score should always be written to compliment the film rather than the other way round... so maybe i need a new plan of attack. I'm going to have to rope someone else in i think.

I do love reading these diary updates! Often you are reporting problems that many of us have faced but you manage to remain positive and determined not to accept second-best. It is inspiring.

You are right, of course, that having the right music for a scene is essential to boost the mood and underline the pace of a film.

Just a thought ... sometimes music can be very effective when it appears at first to be in contrast with the visual action. A slow romantic sound over a gun battle for example. Is it perhaps worth switching around some of the great music that you were sent to try that approach? It would only take a few minutes to try ...

Thanks for that Dave... i do try and remain positive!

I have moved the music around a bit, but it's still not right. I've started opening up the gates to see if others will join in and help. I have 2 other offers at the moment, both of which are trying to incorporate the score that has been written to see if it can be used. It would be a shame to drop it completely.

Should have some more updates by the end of the week!

ENTRY : 26th July 2010

Still not there... but things are moving along again. Thanks to Basher34!

I've been struggling to get a score composed for the film, for a while now. The original composer wrote some music and i've been working with another artist to try and get the music to work. But sadly to no avail. Then along came Basher34 who is now currently working on the score. He sent me a "work in progress" version of the score, and i was pleasantly surprised! Even in it's unfinished state... it is simply awesome!

So... all is well again...

ENTRY : 19th August 2010

The score by Basher34 is coming along nicely! Should be all completed by the weekend, which means that OT2 will finally be complete.
AND boy!... am i looking forward to it!

We've even got our Premiere sorted out too. The organisers of the Red Carpet Screenings Festival will be headlining the film at the next event to be held on the 24th September 2010. Really excited about it, should be fun! Again, all for Charity... so if you are in the South of England and fancy a night out mingling with other up and coming young film makers... make sure you come along.

It's with great relief and a little sadness that the OT2 journey is coming to an end. I just hope it's worth the wait!

ENTRY : 24th August 2010

It's done. OT2 is finally complete, and boy what a trip.

It's been 20 months in the making, full of ups and downs.

The crowning glory of the film is the Score by the man known as "Basher34" on these forums. The guy is a genius, and the music he has blessed me with is as good as anything you hear in Hollywood today. It's almost like he's attended the Hans Zimmer school of scoring... and if you're a fan of Zimmer's work like me, then this can only be a good thing.

So before this guy is snapped up, i suggest you get in contact with him asap!

The Cast & Crew Premiere is next week, and then the Charity Premiere is to be held at the Red Carpet Screening Festival on the 24th September.

I can breathe a sigh of relief.

Cheers Dave. It's a great relief to get it finally done. I'm just gagging to move on to the next project.

As soon as the Premiere is out of the way, i'll be throwing the film out to the festivals, etc. So good times ahead i hope.

ENTRY : 2nd September 2010

Last night i held a Cast & Crew Screening of the film. It went down really well, and everyone seems to be happy with the final film, which is a great relief.
