Sorry, Roy, I suspect you are confusing this forum with another one. I cannot find any sign of such posts here.

Are you thinking, perhaps, about the private IAC email groups: NLE and General?

We have had very little discussion of disc printers here.

Roy is definitely right about this Epsom curse, on whatever messageboard.
Most of the Epsoms I've had do have the problem of the ink getting clogged in their printing heads. It is a regular Epsom problem with their inkjet printers. Just last night I couldn't print a picture of me for taking to the passport office today - had to print with my son's Hp printer, which actually seem not to suffer from this Epson regular problem.

Talk about stress!

Hi Dave. I think on reflection that you right, the hostility against Epson that I have referred to was posted on another forum. My Apologies to this forum. My only excuse is old age. Roy.

Phew!
I thought it might be my brain freezing up!

On a practical note, Roy, what software do you use for preparing and printing on white-DVDs? I can never get the print right to the outer edge or to the hole in the middle. (What traditional printers call "bleeding" when the ink goes right to the edge of the paper.)

Hi Dave
When buying an Epson R300 printer, a software programme is included and it's called PRINT CD. This programme is like a miniature Publisher and amongst its features is one called Inner/Outer Diameter. This allows you to select betwwen Bcm and 12cm Discs. It also allows to select how far you wish the printing to extend. By selecting 20mm for the inner and 120mm for the outer diamension I find this prints right up to the centre hole and also right up to the outer edge of the DVD.

Back to the topic of burning the DVDs ... I took Stephen's advice and bought a Lite-On DH-20A4P which is purring away happily in my PC. [Hey - he said it is cheap and I am a Scot !]

While fitting it I was passed a question from someone who had converted the AVI file from their camcorder into mpeg-2 format, burned it to a DVD and found it would not play on their "set-top box".

I explained that while a computer will play an mpeg2 file happily a commercial "set-top box" expects a standard set of folders and files. To create those she needed a DVD Authoring program. Since she had been using free utilities so far I checked up on some free DVD authoring softare.

I came across DVD Flick from http://www.dvdflick.net which was simple to instal - unlike others which demanded I instal x, y and z modules from various places. It seems to work well and is simple to use. It has a file converter built-in.

So if you find yourself keen to transfer some assorted AVI, MOV, Mpeg files to disc - this will do the job. It can even prepare and burn mixed PAL and NTSC films onto a disc destined for multi-region players.
