Mind you..... I'm still trying to convince the Missus that I need to go to the festival !!!

Recess !!!!
Big problem. I am very happy, but I am afraid of flying and it's a period of recess in Europe and in the USA. Hard times for all of us, I fear ! One positive thing : it's better not to have any money and to spend it on film festivals. Or am I wrong ?

I love those two - they always see right through the stupidity of any situation and bring it right down to earth with incisive ridicule.

Trouble is, what they say hits nails right on the head.

You have to laugh at the accuracy of their insight. The alternative is to spend a lifetime crying at the crassness of those who credit themselves with credentials of 'capability and experience'.

I refer of course to statements made by the man who, as chancellor, sold the UK gold reserves when they hit their lowest value, an event now referred to as the 'Brown Bottom'.

Hello Stephen,
As you know I was in Guernsey for the Lily Festival. I met some friends of your region. They talked about the AMPS-festival and that you missed the first prize this year.

To be honest : I am proud and I am happy with my first prize, but if I could cut my award into two pieces : one piece for me and ... one for you ! I would do it ! The AMPS-festival is like any other well-organized and fair festival. There is no favouritism.

Some years ago I was surprised that my film "Until You Smile" did not even receive a "Commended". Now it seems that you and me have "beaten" the film "In the National Interest" which won a gold medal at Unica and the first prize in the Cotswolds festival and which did not receive any award in the US.

Some days ago a friend in Guernsey told me that he was surprised that my "Will Ye Go to Flanders" was not a finalist. Really I didn't mind at all. I could feel that all our friends in Guernsey appreciated my documentary.

Anyhow I do hope that next time , Stephen, you will beat me and all the other ones. Of course I always do my utmost to make an excellent film because I consider each film as a challenge and I make it for fun. On the other hand I am also happy whe friends win awards, friends like you, Stephen !

you are a very kind person and I feel very humbled by your words.

The great thing about this hobby of ours is not the winning of the competitions and who was placed where... but the people you meet, their views and the sheer passion that crosses all boundaries...whether they be young or old...

The challenge a new film brings and the enthusiasm it is met with will I hope make our hobby live for a long time to come!
