Indoor night filming lighting help...

Post by Jack »

Hi, I'm a student film maker looking to film a few shots of a man lying in
bed, he doesnt have any lights on but obviously i need some form of lighting
for the shots. I cant really find any useful info online.

I want a variety of shots from birdseye views to side angle midshots, im
using a jib so i pretty much have full use of 360degrees.

I'm using a Cannon XL1S mini DV camera, with 2 redhead lights and a reflector.
I also have a handful of colour filters. I want the lighting to appear as
if the guy is sitting in his bedroom at night with the lights off. This is
quite a big piece for me so I dont want it to look shoddy and any help anyone
can throw my way either in this forum or emailed to me would be great. Thanks.

Hi Jack,

You will be pushing it to light this effectively with Red Heads.

We have used these lamps with blue gels in a night scene on a staircase.

and placing torches and domestic halogen lamps in strategic situations (you
may find that you can even get away with this sort of low wattage light).
It is a matter of experimentation and we started by blacking all the daylight
out and messing around with the lamps
I'll email you some pics if you like let me know ?
