Hurray ! A website film festival !

Post by vanderlindenhig@telenet.b »

Yesterday I received a message from two unknown filmmakers who have organized
a "One Minute Festival" on their website. You can watch 26 shorties on their
web and you can vote. "Modern times" ! Do you think it's positive ? I am
sure that you can stimulate people to make "one minute films" by doing this.
On the other hand it's a "cold" manner of organizing a festival, don't you
think so ? I am in favour of club activities and film festivals where film
makers can meet up with other enthusiasts, where they can have a chat and
exchange views, etc. Socializing is something very important. I was born
in the "Baby Boom" period. My parents, however, lived in a period when neighbours
could still sit together in front of their houses having a nice chat when
the weather was fine. In the late fifties the TV-sets appeared and everybody
stayed inside. More and more cinemas had to close their doors. This was
the first step to alienation in the modern world. Now, the computers are
affecting our lives. I didn't vote. Would you ?

Politicians in Belgium already think of giving everybody the opportunity
to vote by using internet. The system will be tried out for the local elections
in 2006. That's a good thing, but film festivals ... Oh, no. I think that
a computer is good thing to have a nice chat on the underused IAC forum (I
agree with you Ian) for instance, though I prefer to meet people like Michael
Slowe, Ken Wilson, ... and other friends personally. But that's what festivals
are for. My computer also makes me forget from time to time ... that I still
have to finish a few films.

I agree. Keep the festival going. The internet is good for the quick discussion
(like this forum) But going to a film festival and putting a face to a name
to someone you met here would be good fun. You could say things like `You
look shorter then your photo!!`.
I`m waiting for the kids to leave home before I start to go out and do what
I want to do! Down here on `The Island`, we seem cut off abit. Things don`t
arrive here untill later on. They just installed the first telephone down
the road the other day..................................................
(Joke!).
Our club catters for the whole county, so 40 people out of a possible 150,000!
But one day it would be great for the Island to have it`s own film festival!
Watch This Space!! Maybe in 10 years time when I have more time.

See you.
