Hi Albert.
I am realy interested in animation. Do you use models or are they computer generated?
Have been toying with this kind of film making for quite a while. Could you possibly
point me in the right direction? I seem to have got myself in a rut lately and would
like to move on to more taxing ideas. Mind you time is not on my side as I work some
realy stupid hours, when I should be out with the camera i'm usualy in bed and at week-ends
i'm working. Flaming work is interfering with my pleasure lol.
A well go and make another cup of Ovaltine, oh by the way Albert
have got the Ovaltinies on a CD. How sad can you get lol.

Hi malcolm,
Oh dear o dear, another poor, poor soul! :-)
Do you use models or are they computer
generated?
I have never animated either!
My speciality is bringing life to ordinary everyday
objects such as typewriten letters/buttons/pins/paper clips
feathers etc. (You may care to hire some of my films from
the IAC library, to see what is possible with ordinary things)

I started in 1958 (afore you were born?). I bought a 16mm
Bolex to make documentaries, but needing to test it out before
starting, I borrowed me mum's 6 holed egg tray, drew some
faces on 6 eggs (a girl/the bully/ the simpleton/the professor etc)and animated them
to a story....went up to Soho and showed the film to a film distributer and he got
it shown on BBC TV within the week!! ......How's that for a beginners luck, as it
so happened to be Easter 1959 and so my little animation was very topical. Didn't
have a TV of my own , so watched my film in a wireless shop window!!!
After that great start I gave up documentaries!

Everyone now is claymation mad, but this was being done over
40 yrs ago. So try to be original, Malcolm. This is the greatest, hardest challenge
for the would be animator. Anyway you don't need arms/face and legs to show character,
which are a bind to animate anyway!
Character (with the help of synch sound ) is the relationship
of one object to another. Arms and legs just ain't required.

Hope above helps. I have written at some length on this subject on the IAC members
forum so do not wish to repeat here. If you need anymore ideas/help give us a buzz
at my private e-mail address.

NSEW?? What is the right direction for an individual?
Object animation suits me ,but may not suit you. You
should try all types until you find your star!

Can you draw? Can you manipulate models? Can you see
life in innanimate objects? Only you can point
yourself where to go....after drinking more Ovaltine
of course. :-))

Try to see Norman Mc Claren's animation, or the ol
master Trinka if you can. THEN do something entirely
different! Try not to ape others....
....they may not be any good anyway! :-)

I seem to have got myself in a rut lately
and would
like to move on to more taxing ideas.
Oh, go make a documentary on TAX inspectors then. :-)
have got the Ovaltinies on a CD.
I have coffee spilt all over mine.

Good luck, and remeber my animator's slogan...

....."Animation animates any mate!"

Albert.

Hi Albert.
Just look at the time, it's daylight and i'm not used to that.
Work as usual lol. I understand where you are coming from (I think) I once brought
a pair of shoes to life along with a pair of high heeled shoes. I called it the Gaffers
toy. It would not have won a gold award but I am still in a job, just. Will tell you
about that at a later date he he. We are extremely busy at the moment with Santa ordering
so many new computers. A lot of sad faces on Xmas day, no doubt our phones will be
red hot.
When I get time I will be pulling your videos from the library
have mentioned it to the wife and she will do it(she also wipes my ----) for me. but
yet that is another story. I will definately be in touch and thank you.

Hi Mal,
I'm coming from Stoke Newington! :-) Now out in the sticks.

Nice idea shoes....red ladies and a pair of big army boots.
Those laces could intertwine! Wow and just think wot
the tongues could do!! Quite an 'X' rating animation that!

but I am still in a job, just. Will

So you're the guy sending out the duff stuff :-))

My wife, Joan has also made animated films too...wives are not
only good fer dusting/cooking/gardening/etc! but making films too..... :-)

I will definately be in touch and thank you.
Well, I hope so mal. It's nice to meet a fellow nut, wiv some
fire in his belly. :-) Most folk are sooooo dreary. :-(

Carry on building the PC's, drinking the Ovaltine and making
those original films! Again, if I can help with technicalities
of animation and discuss ideas together, you know where I am..
....probably in the nut 'ouse by then! :-)

Take care.

Hi Albert
I think you have seen the series on tele, Red Shoes Diary.
That was really good. No. I dont build duff computers I point people in the right direction
when they buy the duff computers and how did you know they were duff :-) That's why
I said I would be very busy over Xmas lol.
Can't tell you where I work as that would put a lot of customers off from buying our
crap ;-) But I can say I sometimes have a lot of TIME on my hands.
You were right when you classed me as a nutter as there isn't many of us about in the
IAC, are you reading this one Dave you seem to be very quite just lately :-( or is
life a bitch at the moment lol. Right Albert will keep in touch and thanks.

Right - busy, busy, busy.

Look forward to having a weekend at home again some time soon.
Spent the last few:
Belgium on jury for the De Drake Festival
at Epsom trying to sort out computers/attending Council
at Lytham St. Annes's leading film appreciation w/e
at Scarborough watching movies set around theatre
at Surrey Borders Club judging their annual comp and wading
through piles of old deed of covenant forms for IAC

All this and Christmas too, eh?
Luckily there is always work to fall back on for a relaxing time!

Some time I may even get round to updating the website.

Thanks for the smiles to brighten my day, though. We may be
few on these boards but we are a select few ... nutters unite!

Cheers - Dave
