Tim's comment about there being more of a buzz at this year's BIAFF is interesting and I'd noticed this myself. I've been attending the festival since 1983 and looking back I think that one thing that helps to enhance the lively atmosphere is a good lounge area where we can all congregate for our tea/coffee/lunch breaks and discuss the films. I've always found the Cairn Hotel to be particularly good, and one of the best venues, with the very large lounge/bar area forming a sort of central hub where we can all comfortably congregate and get a seat if we wish, rather than standing about all the time.
