Sad News - Howard Gregory

Post by John Smith »

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Howard Gregory.

Howard, as you will all know, was the fount of all knowledge when it came to audio matters and was a regular contributor to FVM magazine.

The funeral takes place in Altrincham on Wednesday 27th January.

Further details can be found on the AV News website http://www.avnews.org.uk or the Wilmslow Guild AV Group website at http://www.wilmslowguildav.org.uk

Thank you for passing on this sad news, John.

Howard was a very pleasant man and his regular column in 'Film and Video Magazine' has always been one of my favourites. I have some of his CDs too.

I know it will be a great shock for our friends in the AV movement.

Sad news indeed....

Until meeting Howard I had never met anyone with the breadth and depth of his audio knowledge. He helped me a great deal in my quest for better audio understanding and was a welcome visitor to Newcastle ACA with his powerpoint presentations and excellent CDs on Mics etc. He made specialist stuff up too, bespoke leads, mic pre amps and always gave spot on advice...

He will be sadly missed...

It's much more important than that.

More sad news from within the IAC ranks. I e-mailed Howard a few times about 5 years ago when I was puzzled by the low volume (relatively speaking) we were getting from recordings made on the new Sony Z5 cameras compared to what we had previously been getting on earlier cameras using the same mics. He was very helpful and asked for more details, though we never quite found the answer and in the end I just turned up the recording levels in the menus and sometimes on the timeline too.
I guess it was quite sudden as he had a page in the latest FVM.
