DVD will not play on PC

Post by Peter Copestake »

My domestic PC had been giving problems so my kind neighbour has fettled it for us, getting rid of accumulated junk and increasing memory size, also replacing the CD player with a DVD player/burner which works fine on commercial DVDs but not our own Nero-burnt ones. These play OK on my wife's laptop automatically using Media Player. The PC has Media Player installed but nothing happens when I insert the disc. VLC media player is also installed and seems to be the one that plays the commercial discs but does not recognise mine.

Could some kind soul explain what to do?

Peter

google for MS fixit DVD There is a program that MS have made that fixes all kinds of ills with DVD drives. it's free and you just run it, and often it just fixes your problem.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to let us know what Operating system you have.
I like to make films, this is- my Youtube account. What's yours?

Thanks for that suggestion. Kindly Neighbour did this (I am forbidden from messing with it!)
Seems it may be a mismatch between video card and DVD player. He's going to take it back to his IT specialist colleague at work.
I use Windows XP if it makes a difference but don't bother yet.
Thanks again
Peter.

What a lot of hits this had.
Update - the DVD player/writer was faulty!
