video converters

Post by Roy1 »

Anybody know of a free Video Converter programme which is safe to use. A friend wishes to upload an AVI video to youtube by converting it to Mpeg2 or H264. I had an excellent free programme AVS, then they charged for it and I paid for it, but when I changed PC's they wanted to charge again. I don't need a converter now I've moved on to higher things.

Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) is very popular. And I've used "Super" with some successs (though it can be quite diffiult to find the link to the download: it's on this page http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html near the bottom but NOT the button which says "download", the text link below).

I like Any Video Converter. It's a free download and works well.

I use 'FormatFactory', which handles audio>audio conversions as well. From anything to anything. That too is free, very easy to use, and provides a reasonable degree of control over the results. Make sure you ONLY download from the FormatFactory website though ... others seem to lace it with nasties.
