UNCIPAR

Post by fraught »

I've just had confirmation that the film i directed - '8 Ball' - is being shown in Argentina next month at the UNCIPAR film festival. I entered the film without reading up on the festival so not sure what it's all about (foolish perhaps). Does anyone know much about it? For some reason my google translator doesn't work for the website!

Look it up on the website Withoutabox. They handle most of the festivals being held throughout the world. I registered with them last year when I wanted to enter a film in multiple festivals and they're great. One big form and then it's easy to enter anywhere. They may not list your festival but it's worth you looking.

Congratulations!

Argentinian is enough different from Spanish to upset translation tools. Here is what we say about it on the main IAC website:

UNCIPAR

accept entries from 14 December 2011
Closing : 13 January 2012
Festival: 5-7th April 2012

34th Argentine Days of Cinema and Independent Video held in Villa Gesell (Buenos Aires).

This competition run by the Argentine equivalent of the IAC specialises in films under 30 minutes long. They prefer work with Spanish subtitles.

Entries should have been made since January 2010 and may be on any subject. Entries should initially be on DVD in PAL or NTSC format for pre-selection. If chosen for screening they would prefer DV or MiniDV copies.

If we have interpreted correctly there is no entry fee.

I think if you win you get to use 16mm equipment and film etc to make a movie ... but probably after paying your own way to the Argentine!

Cheers guys. Wish i could travel to Argentina to attend the festival!

With regards to 'Withoutabox', i'm registered with them and have entered about 4 festivals using the site. I'm honestly not impressed so far. All 4 festivals took my £30-£35 entry fee, and all 4 festivals did not acknowledge my entry, send me feedback, or show my film. Nothing. So i'm over a £100 lighter for nothing.
I keep meaning to complain to Withoutabox, but just don't have the time at the moment. I'm definately put off sending my films to any further festivals using their site. :-(

Sorry Fraught about your experience of Withoutabox. I've heard similar from others but I have never failed to receive an acknowledgement (receipt of your submission should show up on your list of details). I frequently get a nice letter, even if they don't select the film. Last year I only had two or three festival 'selections' from a number of entries and just one merit Award, so it can be a bit of a lottery. We have to remember though, that these festivals are pro, or at least semi pro, and the competition is fierce, they sometimes get literally thousands of entries!
