Fan Films

I'm sure you all know, that there is a kind of Phenomena out there called the 'Fan Film'.
Many many mainstream films have had homage paid to them from Amateur filmmakers, me included. From Star Wars (the most popular), to Indiana Jones, to Harry Potter, to The Matrix.

Have any of you out there made a 'Fan Film'?

I recently found out that my old 1993 film 'Hellbent' (my Homage to the Hellraiser movies) is now recognised as the very first Hellraiser Fan Film ever made... its getting a bit of a following too... which is really cool! And i have to say i'm chuffed to bits!

Last year's AMPS festival had a category for Best Fan Film ... I wonder if Ned has any comment.

I would have a few worries about copyright issues. Some film companies may be happy with the phenomenon as a form of viral advertising but others may not.

Many years ago when analog video editing first became practical there was a genre known as "scratch video". One of those won the prestigious Grierson Award ... but it must have breached the copyright of umpteen companies. Few people dared show it.

I love the way that directors who understand today's world are happy about fan movies ... but directors seldom have the rights to a movie. They usually belong to a big international company who may not have the same appreciation of fan works.

I guess that's why Star Wars fans get away with it... because George Lucas owns most of the rights to his stuff anyway.

Fan Films keep the franchise alive whilst the main movies are away...

I heard that there were some films on youtube in the fanfilms category. Someone told me last night about a star wars one, but I've forgot the phrase he called it.

Yes, we had a FanFilms award at last years in the AMPS Fest, again this year. Some of the major Directors, particularly George Lucas for StarWars and Steven Spielberg for the Indiana Jones series have given their blessing to FanFilms and don't pursue copyright infringement provided the films are not made for financial reward. They see them as a positive form of homage.

Proberly record your voice. Capture into Premiere or an Audio Programme. Add a load of Bass and a bit of echo. The same with the Breathing!

Thats how I would d it!

You could try Audacity which is quite a good free programme available from http://audacity.sourceforge.net

I use it to record commentary and music from CD. you can edit and export as a WAV file to your movie editing software.

And if you don't get on with Audacity try GoldWave which is shareware ... but all you get is a nag to buy after 100+ uses ... the second time I got the nag I thought "Damn! If I use it this much the author deserves his token fee and sent it."
