...And there is another good reason for transferring material to a single reel for show projection
When compiling the reel, single frames would be spotted by the editor ... and appropriate action accordingly taken if necessary!
Mind you, a bit late for the judges viewing ... frames with subliminal messages such as 'Vote the Best' would be a bit infra dig, don't you think?
Quite an idea though!
Minimum Festival Rules
As a rule writer for the AMPS Festival please let me know what you don't like and what you do like. Use our rules as a reference if possible (www.ampsvideo.com) but all comments/suggestions welcome. All Festivals want life to be as easy as possible for the entrants.
For the past three years all the AMPS winners have been put on to DVDs for projection at the Festival and for circulation to members. This has worked well, this year the Festival winners will be on 184 DVCAM tapes but we will circulate to members on DVDs. The HDV entries will be on a separate tape for projection but will be down-resed to SD for distribution on DVD.

Producing DVD's
As someone noted I have already outlined my production process but I would like to add that it's the encoding software just as much as the burners and burning programme that effects quality and compatability with players. I use BitVice for encoding and Studio Pro for formatting and burning and don't have to include any menus. Dave was saying that one is forced to do this - not so Dave, I have my DVD's play automatically on the door closing. The time lapse can be determined by how long my black clip is at the start of the programme on my timeline before starting the encoding process.

Festival Rules
Mike, don't know 'Pinnacle' Studio Pro, I use the Apple DVD Studio Pro 4 which will author SD and HD material but needs a Mac G4 or 5. I only us it for authoring or formatting although it will do everything from encoding right through to burning.
As I said before, encoding with BitVice, Dolby audio ac3 with Compressor, formatting with Studio Pro and burning and subsequent duplicating, Titanium Toast.
