Simple question. Is anyone out there interested in a quantity of used once only Mini DV tapes that I've inherited from a member now passed on??? I will clean them off. Only postage required plus a small donation to his widow. If not then they are for the bin. Very sad really.
Cheers. Pete

Thanks Roy. I will keep some in hand. I said I would wipe them, but thinking about it, I realise that wll take me an hour each . . . . . I know there is a system for rapid wiping them but I haven't this. Do you know anything about it?? Does anyone know? I will give it some thought. Cheers. Pete.

Hi again Peter. I.ve had a look at google answers and I can't find any mention of special equipment to rapid wipe DV mini tapes. But there seems to be Bulk erasers which instantly wipe magnetic tapes. I remember now I once had one to wipe VHS tapes, what happened to it, I don't know. I understand they can still be obtained from places like Maplins . Anyway you mentioned the time it would take to wipe the tapes in a camcorder, I would suggest also that if you have a big amount to wipe, it would put a lot of wear of the heads. Is there any reason why the recipients of these tapes can't wipe them thierselves. cheers.

It's extremely difficult to erase the digital info held on Mini DV tapes so I wouldn't even bother. Because it's only ones and zeros, even a faint record will generate the original signal. Leave it to the deck's erase head and all will be well.

Thanks for the interest. Progress has been made in that a friend of the deceased has offered to erase some tapes and I have started to do the same. Naturally the widow doesn't want to pass on tapes containing personal material so I'm sure we respect that.

Roy. As soon as I have a worthwhile bundle of tapes, I will PM you to get your address to post them. You will think it's Christmas come early.

Cheers. Pete.

Hi. Peter. I've tried to send you a PM but I don't think it's worked. A message shows that there is 1 message stored but it doesn't show up in the sent messages panel. What I want to say is that I have received the tapes and will send cash on Monday. I wanted to tell you the amount but as I don't wish to show the amount here I will suggest I send three times the amount you mentioned. Please let me know. Would you also please advise how to send a PM, step by step. I must of got it right once when I sent you my address. This time I must of done something wrong. How is Calne this days I haven't been there for 70 years. I visited a lot when I was at RAF Yatesbury. I performed there in a RAF variety show. Regards Roy
