Capturing on Elements 9

I have been capturing mini DV tapes from my Panasonic VCR for years. That is until recently.
My problem is that when editing on Elements 9 and I click on get media the programme recognizes the VCR and the recording window comes up
with the red record light. If it did not recognize the player it would tell me. However, when I press play on the VCR, no signal comes through.
I have two computers both with Windows 7 Home Premium and they both now have the same problem even though I have tried a new fire wire lead. any ideas please. I
