Hi Stephen,
I had a Panasonic NV-GS230 my first camera (SD camcorder) bought in 2007 and was persuaded to take out camera insurance at the time of purchase to cover for accidental damage and so on and although am rather sceptical where such things are concerned, because this was my first venture into the camera world, went ahead and four years later dropped the thing on a concrete road somewhere. Anyway, the upshot was that I then had cause to test the insurance deal because the camera was pretty useless in a number of ways.
I contacted the insurance company and they gave me the address of their approved repair centre whereupon I packaged it up and sent it off to:-

VIDICAM ELECTRONICS LTD,
Meridian Centre,
King Street,
Oldham,
OL8 1EZ

Tel.: 0161 627 2343

e-mail: vidicam@btconnect.com

they were pretty efficient and a week or so later I had the camera back working perfectly as before and although I have since upped to HD and don't use the old camera anything like as much, it is still working fine.

This was back in Sept. 2011 by the way and because it was under the terms of the insurance deal, I do not know what the eventual end-cost was to the ins. company, but it's a start perhaps.

Good luck,

Tony Williams.

Stephen, I get all my gear from a great firm out at Harefield near Uxbridge, and they are main Sony agents. They are:

Top - Teks Telephone: 01895 855 655
Bridge House
Royal Quay
Park Lane
Harefield
Middx

Speak initially to a chap called Chris West and mention my name. He is not in the service and repair department but will advise you. They have a good engineer and should be able to sort you out.
