GOOGLE VIDEO closes 29th April

Post by Dave Watterson »

From 29th April 2011 hosted video content on Google Video will no longer be available for playback.

They have added a Download button to the video status page, so you can download any video content you want to save. If you don’t want to download your content, you don’t need to do anything. (The Download feature will be disabled after May 13, 2011.) What you download with be in FLV (Flash video format) suitable for uploading elsewhere.

Not surprisingly they recommend moving to YouTube (which Google also owns) though this may be a problem for people who had long films on Google. Many YouTube accounts now allow more than the standard 15 minute limit, but the file size is restricted to 2 Gb.
