Metroplan screen problems

We've just bought a Metroplan screen (5 ft square) from Office Furniture on line. We had to return it because the folds didn't disappear even when it had been extended for two hours or more. OFO had it replaced by Metroplan but the replacement doesn't seem much better. Metroplan say it should improve with time. Has anyone else had one of these ?
If so, does it get right?
The problem seems to be that although there is an hexagonal socket which takes an Allen Key there is no way of holding the extra tension one can get with a 1/8 turn; the screen relies on the spring in the roller.
