Couldn't find the NLE forum - is that gone now?
I have recently bought a new Pentium 4 PC, with DVD writer, but XP doesn't
seem to recognise my DV 300. Yes, I know it's old, and I have firewire on
my new PC, but it's quite jerky writing back to DV and I miss DV tools and
the DV 300's compressor. It seems, according to the webmaster for miro (tho
the site looks somewhat "unofficial") there will be a driver for the 200
and 300 soon. Anyone have any other advice/news? I suppose I may have to
install windows 98 as well as XP, and find out how to do it. Has anyone else
found this is the best way arouns it?
Also, the basic DVD writer software (ArcSoft Showbiz 2) is happy to acknowlege
48khz audio on DV files, but only seems to work at 32khz, and the sample
rate coversion is poor (makes the sound poor on the final DVD), though the
computer and Premiere's settings are at Best Sample Rate Conversion. I am
looking into some better software, but again any advice welcome.

I cannot answer the DV300 question, but the results
for this year's IAC competition have now gone out
to all entrants. What was your entry this time?
BTW - I recently had the chance to see you starring
in Atta's "Fifteen Minutes" - what a smooth performance!
Have other forum readers got their comp results?

Is it the case that for Miro cards that there is an option to choose between
DV or Analogue output while playing back a clip? Is it jerky in both cases?
Does it help if you create the final .avi file on hard disk first? Then even
play it back outside Adobe Premier?
Also you need to try different PCI slots for your DV300. the PCI slots are
not all the same.
I never ran a mico card on XP though...

Panic not! I got a letter the next day saying the film had won a silver.
I finished at the film school last summer, hope to be able to tell more about
it at the festival. I have worked on a TV show and some short films since,
and will be working on one next week with Miranda Richardson, but the climate
is still slow.
I have also sorted by DV300, if anyone has a simialr problem (ie not working
with XP) then I might be able to give some advice, tho as with most computer-related
problems, it was more of a trial-and-error excercise!

Well I managed to donwload a new driver so all is working ok now. The jerkiness
was with the computer's own firewire port, but it's fine now I have the DV300
working. I was surprised tho that DV tools will still let you record only
9 mins (2 GB) of video, whereas in Permiere itself the file size is unlimited.
