Nostalgia

Post by John Simpson »

The first lockdown started on 16th March. It was a early warm Spring and all the clubs and activites stopping seemed to free up time for me. As time has gone by I've been getting more nostalgic about the things I was doing before the virus. The human psyche has a way of doing this: "Remember those good old days when ........!" Luckily we forget the yawns and remember the laughs.

I suppose we are at the beginning of a new Zoom era, and what we had before may never come back the same - one thing I've noticed about clubs and zoom is that often everyone is invited to meetings from all over the country, so we may get some clubs specialising in certain types of film, say animation, or non-competitive filmmaking, and may draw members from all over the country/or even the world?

You may well be right, John. That would be both a good thing, in that people with shared specialised interests could gather & share, but also a bad thing in that specialisation as both makers and viewers could reduce the variety of films people watch, or are tempted to have a go at making.

I think Forums often get it right, with general sections and sections for more specialised fields so members can spend most of their time in the area(s) that interests them, but can also join in discussion in the more generalised sections as well as dip in and out of other areas.

Quite how that could be achieved with online meetings, I don't know.

It might be worth remembering the Zoom facility for "Breakout Rooms" ...

I had, and I almost mentioned it, but it weakened my argument, so in true political manner, I ignored it.
