Picasa did all I needed for my level of photo acquisition, storage and simple edit.
What's the best replacement, please?

I agree, and I've long been a user and lover of Picasa and I use it all the time. I bet a Google search will still find a website that has it for download (though I haven't looked and of course it won't be updated by Google any more).

Other than that there are quite a few such free editing programs out there, but of course you'll have to go through the learning curve again.

Thanks,Tom. I have been meaning to reply to myself but keep forgetting. I have since posting the query discovered that Picasa works OK on Windows 10 and the aid who said it wouldn't has made it the default again.
