Thanks Dave, but surely you, as a prominent figure within the IAC, must have some idea of what's happening with the magazine. Is it at all possible that dear old Garth could be persuaded to carry on for the moment? I ask again, what prompted his proposed departure, not necessarily his own decision?

It seems that the whole thing is shrouded in mystery. The new issue has just arrived and tells us that there will be an interim arrangement while a new editor is found. It says that all the regular contributors are to continue. Slightly presumptuous as no-one has actually asked me.

I have only just been able to read the latest FVM (Garth's last) and the statement by Mike Whyman seems positive. An interim arrangement to keep the editorial going by Mike and someone else organising the printing and posting. Then advertising for a new editor.

I think most of us who have stuck for several years at a hard and usually under-appreciated job can understand the wish to set it aside and enjoy life again! I am sure Garth will heave a sigh of relief and relax into his other hobbies ... listen for the revving of a powerful engine ...

Let's wish Mike all the best as interim editor and hope that IAC can find a new permanent editor before too long.

My very last chance before you all take over and waffle on endlessly
about BIAFF for the next three months, all through the summer, and
to the end of the year and beyond.

Will the time ever arrive when Dave Watterson contacts Linda Gough,
the president of this wonderful organisation, the IAC, and informs her
of the problems with the FVM magazine, and, its covers?

In the last issue, April 2019, which we all received recently, we were shown,
on the front cover, a photograph of a car, which we were told came from The
AV section of the magazine.

Surely the FVM magazine is a film and video magazine, and not a photography
magazine? And while I accept that the AV Column is a vital part of this magazine,
wouldn’t it be more appropriate to publish a front cover that has something to
do with film-making?

I am amazed that Linda Gough hasn’t commented on the subject of the back cover.
Will she confirm or deny that the people shown on the back cover are relatives of hers,
and that this is the reason that this out-of-date cover has been with us for so long.

And remember, this isn’t a recent problem. This discussion first came up just
over four years ago, and the back cover, I believe, hasn't changed in the last
ten years.

So Dave, please don’t make excuses for the committee, they’ve had four
years to look into this matter, not four months.

Cathy, surely a film and video magazine is a photography magazine by its very nature? Film is 24 still images per second, video is 25, both with added sound (though not necessarily and not always). Both of them require an understanding of framing and composure, focus, DoF, exposure, focal lengths, editing, colour grading, shutter speeds, ISO and final delivery.

My Positive Image articles certainly encompass both mediums (media?), and I've written about stills and video in approximately a 50:50 ratio over the years. Do you simply bypass my stills photography articles feeling they don't belong here?

Dear Cathy;

I assume your application to edit the magazine was turned down and I can't seem to find any of the articles you have submitted. Your obsession with the cover and the back cover are misplaced in my view; these are trivia compared with the significance of the survival/growth of the IAC and the support of BIAFF. Our waffle about the BIAFF is much more productive than your waffle about the covers which has now run into a mess of unproductive postings.

Ned, I hope that you are coming to BIAFF, you may even land the Editor's job! Easy from the mountains of Colorado.

Sorry about the delayed response - distracted by family matters.

Cathy, why don't you ask Linda Gough directly? Her postal, email addresses and phone number are on the official merchandise order form on the IAC website. I don't want to write it here, where it might be grabbed by a spambot.

I am pretty sure you do not really suspect conspiracy or a plot.

Personally I believe that a very small group of people are struggling to keep IAC going as well as helping to organise their own club and regional events. Damn few people offer to do the administration work behind our movement. That limits what can be done, no matter how willing everyone is.

Let's see how the first issue of FVM under new management will turn out.

I find it slightly amusing that some people writing here do not know your film and writing work. You are not some armchair critic who does nothing herself.

Dave; my attempts to find anything about Cathy were not very successful so perhaps you could point me in the right direction; thanks.

Michael; unfortunately no visit to BIAFF this year; some health issues that hopefully will be resolved for a visit in the Fall.

I have a meeting with the new "owners" of AMPS next week and we plan to get the AIFVF restarted.

Well it's the 10th May and still no May/June 2019 issue of FVM has turned up. Anyone had their copy yet?

At long last.

After five years of waiting
for a change to the back cover of the
FVM magazine, the IAC has finally
decided to bring their magazine up to date.

Or is it really up to date?

Will this be for one issue only?

So please tell us John, because we've all been waiting
since you last wrote on Sunday 19 May 2019. What exactly
did you like about the old back cover?
