PIP SENSATIONAL

Well okay that's maybe an attention seeking headline but we just got the first
bit of film back from the labs which has been produced entirely by optical
reprint from PIP format and super 8. Tests were done some time ago and the
system is still on the learning curve BUT today we have just viewed the trailer
for "The Bilbster Adventure". This has been an adventure in multi format
optical copy-editing and exposure balancing.
PIP has been used in it's two primary ways which are A) optical print master
of composited special effects, and B) Title unit sets. The titles have been
pushed one step further than static words on the screen. We purposefully
made a very brief but clearly animated title action to enhance the trailer
and it worked. The bulk of the peice is PIP format mastered but some shots
were added in from super 8 camera original shots. The final result is a good
trailer that fits it's soundtrack nicely at 1 min, 12 sec.
We also had to produce the countdown using PIP because you know you can't
just cut in a bit from other films due to copyright. Additionally todays
footage contained another test for 9.5mm optical printing and it has come
out successful.
So your chance to see the first public presentation of the trailer for "The
Bilbster Adventure", the 9.5 test and the excert from "The Adventures Of
Maya" is this Friday (30th) in Skinandis Nightclub, Thurso.
