MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Post by Marmite Kid »

One small step for mankind, one giant step for the Marmite Kid. WE MADE IT!!!!
What a wonderfull day out I had on Saturday. I would like to thank the Robins
for making my day so great. I was a little sorry to leave just before the
end but I start to flake as the day goes on. I would like to give my apologies
to Ken and his wife for just showing a crack but I was so overwhelmed with
what I had achieved on Saturday it just got to me. It was a super venue to
hold the festival at and I hope they hold it there next year, another target
to aim for. Our Rita has promised to accompany me next year as she would
like to meet the robins and thank them personally for what they did for me
during the early days providing we are at Harrowgate. The robin who I missed
dearly was our Albert; there were plenty of bums on seats Albert. ;-)
With a good venue, good films and excellent company my day was made.
Thank you all.

Jan and I are just back home (midnight+15m) after the BIAFF Festival
in Harrogate. It was excellent and as Atta, our webmaster, was there
I am sure lots about it will appear on the website in the next week
or so.

For any who do not know, "Marmite Kid" went through hospital hell
over the last year, but has come through it thanks to
the medical team
his own indomitable spirit
and
his wife, the marvellous Rita, who has been an amazing tower of
strength throughout ... helping him and keeping his friends informed of progress.

Kid ... I was at the screening of your film of "Shrewsbury" late on
Saturday afternoon. When I realised you had not managed to get to
it to pick up your Silver Award certificate I explained to the
audience that you had been at the event most of the day but had
warned us that the pain-killers might wear off by mid-afternoon.

I also took the liberty of telling them that I knew you were
grateful to all your movie-making friends, whose goodwill, support,
prayers and wishes had helped encourage you.

Earlier in the day, I was so stunned when you appeared that it took
me minutes to recognise you ... it was a wonderful moment.
All your friends were passing the word to each other that you were
there and being cheerful ... they all had big grins of delight on
their faces as they said it.

I made a great festival an occasion for true celebration.

Dave

P.S. Albert, we missed you and Joan. Next year's festival is NOT
back in Harrogate but at the equally attractive venue of the
Chesterfield Hotel in Chesterfield. (Nearer for Albert to get
to and not too far for Malcolm and Rita.)

Wotcha kid,
Bin pruning me fevers mate.
I'm spending too much time now buying/selling on Ebay
to bother with film. Might sell my soul there soon but
not too sure which antique section it should go in.

Did you see one of the Channel tunnel boring machines
sell there 2 week ago? 64 bids and it went for 39k !
Collect only, no postage !!!

Albert....Ebaying at the moon.

Wow, what a Festival and how good to see so many old friends and film makers,
particularly Marmite Kid! What cheerful courage he shows, an example to
us all.

The venue was the best ever, even better than the old hotel they used a million
years ago in London. Pity it can't be there every year but the organisers
are nervous wrecks from one year let alone another!

Atta, don't go down the road of judges judgement. You are a young man, I
have seen it all and believe me they tend to get it right more often than
not. I have some questions in my own mind but not on a public forum!

I would love to comment on some of my favourites when I have more time but
suffice to say that the standard, in my opinion, took a huge leap upwards
this year, and not only the foreigners either. A lot of what I saw would
play better on television than much of today's output.

no no not that i was pointing finger of blame to anyone. just that it happened
that i've seen the film and wanted to make a comment about it. have you seen
it? i respect the judges' hard work and if i say i have a different view...
well, mine is just another individual's opinion!
