Re: old film effect premiere pro cs3 or cs4

I don't claim to be any expert on this and I don't claim the example I've posted is perfect, but I spent quite a bit of time doing this last year and my experiences may save you some time. I can't help you with specifics, but I can give you some general advice which I discovered when doing the post ...

Re: COPY BARRING

There are copy protection solutions, for example: http://www.fortiumtech.com/patronus_dvd-anti-rip-copy-protection.aspx Whilst no solution is going to totally prevent duplication, this sort of solution is likely to put off the average user once they've tried a few DVD copying programs. What was the ...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

There's even a high and low mic sensitivity switch, so you can therefore have any level you like with whatever mic you like. Actually it's even better than that, Tom. There's a mid setting as well  Everything does have it's limits though. Even on the low setting it can't quite cope with church...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

Arthur, I rarely bother with the fiddly folder system on the H2. I simply remove the card, copy everything to my computer, delete it from the card and then do my file management on the PC for that very reason. I know some people don't like removing the card because of the flimsy door/flap on the H2 ...

Many thanks to both of you. I'm sure I won't be alone in finding these great resources.

Re: Maps

Drawing one's own map using an existing map as the source is one solution of course, but does that really avoid the copyright I wonder? Could it be regarded as plagiarism? Interesting thought, Mike. If two people sketch a map of an island whilst flying above it, that would not be plagarism; but if ...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

I wonder whether two H2s actually keep in sync. You may get different results depending on who is testing, what kit etc. Unfortunately I no lomger have the source, but a few weeks back I recorded a number of 30 min lessons (teacher instructing a primary pupil) and within each 30 mins I was splitting...

Maps

I like to see a map in a film if I'm unfamiliar with the location or if a journey is undertaken, but does anyone know the score regarding copyright? We see maps in many competition films, has permission really been applied for and received or do the makers just assume they can use them? (He asked, s...

Re: A guide to a PC's specifcation

The initial problem with Sandy Bridge CPU's was not with the CPU itself but with the MOBO chipset, Indeed. "aside from the fact Intel announced the problems with the chipset two days after I'd bought it " the new "Z" chip is looked on as the one to go for but it is still very ea...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

My sound guy prefers the H4n for various reasons but mostly for the fact that it has the BNC connectors. Just so as not to confuse the uninitiated (and being the pedant that I am) I believe you are referring to the XLR connectors (which, I believe also take 1/4" jacks which may be useful if co...

Re: A guide to a PC's specifcation

FWIW I've been editing on a Sandy Bridge i7 2600K running at 4.7GHz since February and have had no issues - aside from the fact Intel announced the problems with the chipset two days after I'd bought it  The system is self built to some extent but I bought a CPU/Motherboard/RAM re-overclocked ...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?

How would it be, Tim, is there was agreement beforehand that members of the panel took it in turns to write a full report on a film, while the others could add comments if they wished? Simple, easily implemented and addresses the problem. Perfect, Dave! In fact, pretty much the way the new "Ad...

Re: How might BIAFF entries be judged?

Ken's suggestion has much going for it. I think there is little doubt that the more people who see a selection of films the more consistent results will be. I also believe that the opportunity to watch films more than once, as in judges viewing DVDs at home, might improve this. It would certainly he...

Re: Marketing of SIV's

What happens if you make an 'amateur' movie of an historic subject that people (hundreds, say!)want a copy of - want to buy? A dilema! You cannot make the copies - in cases with inserts etc - for free. You cannot charge because it breaks the amateur rules. On the basis that most historical subjects...

Re: H2 ZOOM DIGITAL RECORDER

I'd just like to add my name to the list of fans of the Zoom H2. I only use it with the built-in mics. I got a small but noticable amount of hiss when coupled with my Rode Videomic. The hiss was very specific ad thus easy to remove with budget level audio software (GoldWave being my choice), but why...
