Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

The CEMRIAC SPRING MOVIE FESTIVAL should have taken place in Derby today. Instead of it being cancelled, it went online this afternoon on Zoom conferencing, and I thought it all went splendidly. Well done to Simon Sumner for organising and hosting it, and a big thank-you to judge Paul Kittel. Paul h...

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

Sorry about your low ratings Michael. I’ve no doubt you’ll bounce back and your ratings will hopefully rise again in the future back to your former glory.
Not many people have fed back on here considering there was a record number of entries. Where is everybody?

Re: BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

Congratulations Geoff on your Diamond award. Well done. I had 6 entries and the one I pinned most hopes on was my thriller GOOD GIRL. It’s been awarded 4 stars and the KPM prize. Another thriller, PIECES, was given 4 stars as well. My Woody Allen pastiche BLUE LADY got 3 stars as did BELIEF and THE ...

BIAFF 2020 RESULTS

With the BIAFF results being sent out as from Monday, I thought I’d open this thread so that those of us who entered the competition can voice our thoughts and opinions when we’ve received our star ratings and judges’ comments. I was a first round judge again this year. Thank goodness the judging to...

Re: COVID-19

It’s sad but inevitable that BIAFF 2020 has been postponed. At least we have the rescheduled BIAFF to look forward to - good to see that it’s pencilled in for October. I was a bit worried that Doubletree Hilton might refuse to refund my two nights’ booking fee as the invoice had indicated that the r...

Re: UNICA and the age old question

Thanks Michael! And Tim!
I’ve just discovered that the adjective from avocation is avocational. There an entry for this word in the Merriam-Webster dictionary:
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/avocational
I defy anyone to better this!

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

Ah! I’ve usually been crediting the music I’ve used on end credits. Must stop doing that unless it’s specially composed or copyright-free anyway.

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

I’ll leave it to someone else to give you the definitive expert answer Roy, but what I understand is this. The IAC Licence totally covers us for most instances such as screenings of our films in private and in public such as in clubs, film competitions and festivals. However, uploading our films to ...

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

I've sent you a private email, Tim, explaining my reason for not naming the music library in question on this forum. In the past I've sometimes created my own music using Magix Music Maker software, eg. for DARK HORSE, and also I've asked musician friends to create scores for me for no payment, eg. ...

Re: IAC MUSIC LICENCE

Well now, I'm actually going to answer my own question myself. I should have delved more into the information given on the IAC website before posing the question, as the answer lies therein: IAC has negotiated special arrangements with the various licensing bodies allowing the use of both Library mu...

IAC MUSIC LICENCE

I have a question relating to the IAC music licence which allows us amateur filmmakers to use copyright music on condition that it is only for use in amateur non-profitmaking productions. There are extensive music libraries online which appear mainly to be for professional use. Would the IAC licence...

Re: UNICA and the age old question

How about this, folks? We are AVOCATION FILMMAKERS making AVOCATION FILMS. Just take a look at this first paragraph on Wikipedia relating to this word 'avocation'. An avocation is an activity that someone engages in as a hobby outside their main occupation. There are many examples of people whose pr...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

I’m so pleased you were there for the screening of THE GIFT, Jill. The only day I could attend to watch some of the films was on the Saturday, and yes, what a terrific giant screen it is at the Millennium Point cinema and excellent sound (unlike last year when they had the volume level far too high)...

Re: THE BIRMINGHAM FILM FESTIVAL

Jon, I’m so glad you saw my film THE GIFT at the Birmingham Film Festival on Sunday at midday. I was so pleased it was officially selected and shown, but at the same time I was gutted that I couldn’t be present for the screening. Before the programme was announced, I’d arranged a major filming sessi...
