Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

I am sure you know, Albert, but for the curious:

There are two kinds of best boy: best boy electric and best boy grip. They are assistants to their department heads. These days they may be "best girls".

Who knows what pronouns they may wish to choose!

Re: A Bunch of Amateurs

Thanks for the tip-off, Ken. At this time of year it was not always easy to get out to the few cinemas that were showing the film.
Hope you and Carol have a very happy Christmas and a merry New Year!

Re: AGM 2022 - what should we aim for?

Michael - I am nothing in the IAC now ... except perhaps a thorn in the side!

Simon Sumner should have the Zoom recording and I see no reason why he should not make it available.

Re: BIAFF 2023

Further news from the IAC AGM: BIAFF 2023 will last from Monday 1st to Monday 8th May ... most of that time online. It is likely that there will be live screenings in the Crescent Theatre, Birmingham, Friday 5th to Monday 7th May - with a break during the time of the coronation of King Charles III. ...

Re: 50 plus year old film !

As a mere youngster in his mid-70s ... it seems to me that for a long time in the amateur film movement, people avoided controversial documentary themes - at least in Britain and the USA. In much the same way as they avoided swearing or nudity, they generally did not film poverty, gay sexuality, inj...

Re: BIAFF 2023

Still no news of change, so we can only assume BIAFF goes ahead as planned. It will now be in the middle of a three-day weekend with the extra bank-holiday being added on the Monday.

It was very difficult to get a weekend in the theatre ... so probably not much scope for change.

Re: Filming with an iphone

Keep an ear out for the sound quality - again using the best equipment you can get gold of. Now and then a film appears at a festival, and the sound is "thin" or has other problems. The film maker probably checked on his computer or home tv and found no problems.

Gosh I have not seen that one for ages!

It is a little long for today's tastes, but still charming.
Thanks

Re: Filming with an iphone

A professional cameraman once told me: "Ideally you should stick a reel of film in your head and blink 24 times a second."

But that doesn't help John ... we must have someone around who can answer him.

Re: Entering competitions..

I have noticed that some film makers do not pay much attention to the descriptions they supply for their films. A few even get their own film title wrong.

Howard is good at writing brief eye-catching notes and making sure strong stills appear beside his films.

Re: Entering competitions..

Glad you chose us and not Batumi IAFF !!

The shortage of distinct acronyms. It happens to "UNICA" as well ... there are many organisations called that.

Even "IAC" has possible confusion with organisations for adoption, aeronautics, film agents and more.

Re: Entering competitions..

Hi Michael, No, UNICA does not accept individual entries - it's competition is for national organisations, thus IAC chooses the films sent from UK. So far as I am aware Malta's GOLDEN KNIGHT is still going. Closing : 30 September, 25 October 2022 Festival: 27 November 2022 website: https://www.faceb...

Re: Entering competitions..

A Slovenian friend, Franc Kopič, has been putting his films into as many festivals as he can around the world. (I am guessing they are festivals with free entry) and has scores of awards, certificates and so on. A Polish amateur - I think the name was Henryk Lehnert - claimed to have more awards tha...
